As I ease into the New year, I am reflecting on whether I want to make New Year’s Resolutions and if so, what I want them to be. Instead of starting a new hobby or doing something active or healthy, I decided to do more of what I love and focus on the important things.

What is important to me is spending time with family and friends, connecting with neighbors and the people in my community.

Continuing to bake sourdough bread and trying new recipes and techniques is something I love.

And as it turns out, they go together. There are many old friends that I reconnected with after the pandemic thanks to my bread baking. Other casual friends became closer, and I have made new friends because of my bread baking. Finally, I don’t want to forget all who have bought bread and stopped for a casual chat about the weather, the city and what’s going on in our lives.

When I started baking, I thought I would just bake bread, but little did I know the human aspect of this endeavor, the nice chats and great time I have spent with so many people.

I hope if you made New Year’s Resolutions you have decided on something that gives you pleasure and not just something we think we should do to better ourselves. We are pretty great already!

Happy 2024 to you all!
